What roof does the 4mm Tile - Valley Guard Kit (750mm) suit?
This kit is built for tiled roofs and is sized for your roof valleys at 750mm wide, the gutters where two roof planes meet and channel the most leaf and debris flow. It pairs with our standard 4mm tile gutter guard so your whole roofline is covered.
How do I install it in a tile valley?
Tile valleys are the most challenging install to get looking clean, so take your time — installation videos are coming to the website soon. Lay the mesh down the valley, then on each side cut it in a zig-zag of vertical and horizontal cuts, leaving enough mesh on the high side of each tile to tuck under. Work down each side and fully cut, lift and tuck each tile before moving to the next — if you make all the cuts first, tucking pulls the mesh and throws off every remaining cut, usually costing you a fresh roll. Keep your vertical cuts on the lines where two tiles meet, as lifting one tile naturally lifts the next.
What is actually in the kit?
You get our 4mm aluminium gutter guard mesh plus the saddles and clips (from leading Australian suppliers including BlueScope® steel), Colorbond-matched trims, and Class-3 self-drilling screws to suit the valley install. Everything you need for a DIY valley fit comes in the one kit.
What does the 4mm aperture stop?
The 3mm x 4mm aperture keeps out leaves, twigs and general debris, and it also blocks birds and mice from getting into your roof and gutters. Be honest with yourself though: gutter guard minimises maintenance, it doesn't eliminate it, so very fine matter like seeds, blossom and pine needles can still pass through or sit on top.
Will this stop possums getting into my roof?
No, not aluminium. A determined possum will rip straight through aluminium mesh to get back to the roof, we've seen it on our own jobs where they were getting to their young. If possums are your concern you need a steel option, which we can source on request, just call 1300 156 197.
How is it sold and can you cut it to my valley width?
The guard is sold in 10-metre increments, not per metre, so you order the total length you need. We can cut custom mesh widths for a small $25-per-roll cut fee if your valleys differ from the standard, and we build custom kits for unusual roofs on request.
What colours can I get and why does yours last?
The full Colorbond-matched colour range is available except a few colours the steel suppliers have discontinued. We use locally-sourced steel from leading Australian suppliers (including BlueScope®) with a premium powder coating, salt-spray tested past 1000 hours, so it resists the fading and rusty-red screws you often see on cheap overseas imports.
What does the 20-year warranty cover, and how does shipping work?
Our 20-Year Industry-Leading Warranty covers degradation of the material itself, the mesh and coating breaking down or fading; it doesn't cover damage from falling branches, hail or neglect, since guard is about minimisation not a permanent no-maintenance fix. Shipping is free over $500 and a flat $20 under, dispatched from our Gold Coast warehouse, usually 1 to 7 days to metro areas.
Is this a DIY job or do I need an installer?
It's designed for confident DIY, follow our installation guides, secure your ladder, use a harness and take your time, especially working in valleys where the roof pitch is steeper. If your roof is unusual or you'd rather talk it through, give us a call on 1300 156 197.
How do I know if my tiles have storm clips?
It depends on your roof's wind rating. Under the Australian tile-fixing standard (AS 2050) and the National Construction Code, the higher the wind classification the more tiles are mechanically clipped — so coastal, elevated and cyclone-prone roofs (including Queensland) are far more likely to have storm clips, while many inland suburban roofs have few or none. We've installed across these conditions, so our tip is simple: before you start, lift a few tiles along the gutter line and check. If they're clipped, release the clips first — it's much harder once the mesh is laid. In Queensland, two chisels work well: one to lift the tile, one to release the clip. (General guidance — your roof's fixing depends on when and where it was built.)
