Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between this 2mm Ember Guard and your standard 4mm mesh?
The 2mm Ember Guard has a finer 2mm x 2mm aperture designed to block wind-borne embers and finer debris, which is what makes it the bushfire choice. Our standard 4mm range (3mm x 4mm) stops leaves, twigs, birds and mice, but its larger holes won't hold out embers, so if fire protection is the goal, go with the 2mm.
How do I install this Klip-Lok kit?
This kit fixes the mesh straight to the roof — no saddles. Roll the mesh out and fit the trims to the gutter first. Cut the mesh (or order a custom width) so it overhangs the sheet by only a couple of centimetres. At each high point make two vertical cuts either side and fold the small 2–3cm-wide flap of mesh up toward the sky, push the mesh flat onto the sheet, then screw it directly into the sheet — only where the sheet overhangs the gutter, so any leak drains into the gutter. Finally, push each folded flap into the open hole at the top of the Klip-Lok rib to block mice from getting into the roof space.
Is this kit actually fire rated, and what rating does it meet?
Yes. The mesh is non-combustible, CSIRO tested, and AS 3959-2018 compliant, making it suitable across BAL ratings for bushfire-prone areas. We'd always recommend you check your specific BAL assessment and local requirements, but this is built and tested as a genuine ember-protection product, not a leaf guard with a fire sticker on it.
What comes in the Klip-Lok kit?
Each kit is matched to Klip-Lok roofing and includes the 2mm Ember Guard mesh plus the saddles, clips and Class 3 screws needed for that profile, sold in 10-metre increments. Steel saddles and clips come from leading Australian suppliers including BlueScope®, with Colorbond-matched trims and screw coatings.
Will the colour and coating last on a coastal Gold Coast roof?
Yes, and this is where local steel earns its keep. We use locally-sourced steel and a premium powder coating that's salt-spray tested past 1000 hours, so it resists the fading and rusty-red screw heads you often see on cheap overseas imports that look fine on day one. Colorbond-matched colours are available across the range, bar a few discontinued shades the steel suppliers no longer offer.
Will this also keep embers and debris out, or will I still get some through?
Honestly, gutter guard minimises rather than eliminates. The 2mm aperture holds out embers and most debris, but very fine matter like seeds, blossom or pine needles can still sit on top or work through over time, so the odd clean is still smart. Anyone promising a permanent never-clean-again result isn't being straight with you.
How does the 20-year warranty work?
The 20-Year Industry-Leading Warranty covers degradation of the material itself, meaning the mesh and coating breaking down or fading over time. It doesn't cover damage from falling branches, hail or neglect, since gutter guard is about minimisation rather than a bulletproof permanent fix. We keep that clear up front so there are no surprises down the track.
Can I cut it to fit my gutters, and is it DIY friendly?
It's designed for DIY and sold in 10-metre increments, and we can cut custom mesh widths for a small $25-per-roll cut fee if your gutters are non-standard. For unusual roofs or box gutters we also build custom kits on request, so give us a call on 1300 156 197 before you order.
How does installation work and what does it cost to ship?
It's designed as a DIY install with our installation guides, so take your time, secure your ladder and use a harness when working at height. Shipping is free over $500 and a flat $20 under that, dispatched same or next business day from our Gold Coast warehouse, with metro delivery usually 1 to 7 days.
