Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 2mm Ember Guard mesh actually stop?
The 2mm x 2mm aperture is designed to block wind-borne embers plus finer debris, which is why it's the fire-rated choice over our standard 4mm mesh. It still stops leaves, twigs, birds and mice as well, but remember gutter guard minimises debris rather than eliminating it entirely — very fine matter like seeds, blossom or pine needles can still sit on top or pass through.
Why is this fire rated, and what can I claim about it?
The 2mm aperture meets AS 3959-2018 and is suitable across BAL ratings, it's CSIRO tested and the aluminium mesh is non-combustible. If you're in a bushfire-prone area, the finer 2mm is the one to choose over our 4mm leaf mesh.
Is 500mm the right width for my roof?
500mm suits most tile roofs and standard box gutters, and it's the size we reach for most often. If you've got corrugated, Trimdek or Klip-Lok profiles you'd usually want a narrower 250mm, and for tile valleys or larger box gutters look at our 750mm or 1000mm rolls. If your roof is unusual or you're not sure, call us on 1300 156 197 and we'll help you work out the right width — we also build custom kits for tricky roofs.
This is mesh only — what else do I need?
Mesh-only rolls are for customers who already have saddles, clips, screws and trims, or who are topping up an existing install. If you need the full setup, grab one of our complete kits instead which includes the fixings and Colorbond-matched trims.
How is it sold and can you cut it to a custom width?
It's sold in 10-metre increments (so order the total length you need in 10m lots), not per metre. We can cut custom mesh widths for a small $25-per-roll cut fee, and we build custom kits for unusual roofs or box gutters on request — just call 1300 156 197.
Will this keep possums out?
No — possums need steel mesh, as a determined possum will rip straight through aluminium to get back into the roof. We've seen it on jobs where possums tore through aluminium mesh to reach their young. This 2mm Ember Guard is aluminium, so it's great for embers, leaves, birds and mice, but if possums are your concern call us on 1300 156 197 and we can source a steel kit.
What's the quality difference compared to cheap mesh?
Our guard uses locally-sourced steel components from leading Australian suppliers including BlueScope®, paired with a premium powder coating that's salt-spray tested past 1000 hours for coastal durability. Cheap overseas imports can look fine at first but fade quickly and their screw coatings often go rusty-red — ours is built to resist fading and last.
What does the warranty cover, and how does shipping work?
The 20-Year Industry-Leading Warranty covers degradation of the material itself — the mesh and coating breaking down or fading — but not damage from falling branches, hail or neglect, since gutter guard is for minimisation not zero maintenance. Shipping is free over $500 or a flat $20 under, dispatched from our Gold Coast warehouse with 1–7 days metro delivery.
