Frequently Asked Questions
Is this kit actually fire rated, and what does that mean?
Yes. The 2mm x 2mm Ember Guard aperture is fine enough to stop wind-borne embers, and the mesh is non-combustible with a premium powder coating, so it is suitable for use under AS 3959-2018 across BAL ratings and is CSIRO tested. In plain terms, that means it is built to keep burning embers out of your gutters during a bushfire event, which is the real risk with most homes. Choose this 2mm over our standard 4mm mesh when ember protection, not just leaves and debris, is your priority.
How do I install it on a Trimdek roof?
Roll the mesh out and pin it. Fit the trims to the gutter lip first, then install the saddles at 6 per metre. The key tip: make a 5cm relief cut in the mesh directly under where each saddle sits, running down the spine of the high point toward the gutter — this lets the mesh flex into the low point so the saddle pins it flush with no gaps for debris. Secure your ladder and use a harness.
What is the difference between this 2mm Ember Guard and your standard 4mm mesh?
The 4mm (3mm x 4mm aperture) mesh stops leaves, twigs, debris, and even birds and mice. This 2mm x 2mm Ember Guard does all of that and also stops wind-borne embers plus finer debris, because the smaller aperture closes the gap embers slip through. If bushfire and ember protection is the concern, go 2mm; for general leaf protection in a lower-risk area, the 4mm is usually enough and a bit more open for water flow.
Will this stop everything from getting in my gutters?
It minimises debris and embers significantly, but no gutter guard eliminates everything, and we would rather be honest about that. Very fine matter like seeds, blossom and pine needles can still sit on top or work through, so think of it as protection that drastically cuts how often you are up the ladder, not a permanent never-clean fix. Short of having no gutter at all, nothing is truly maintenance-free.
What is included in the Trimdek kit?
It is a complete DIY kit with the 2mm Ember Guard mesh sized for the Trimdek profile, plus the saddles, clips and Class 3 self-drilling screws to fix it all off. The steel components come from leading Australian suppliers including BlueScope®, and the screws use a durable coating so they do not go that rusty-red colour you see on cheaper imported kits. Mesh is supplied in 10-metre increments, and if you have an unusual roof or box gutters we can build a custom kit on request on 1300 156 197.
How is it sold, and can I get a custom width?
Mesh is sold in 10-metre (10m) increments, not per metre, so order in 10m lots to cover your total run. If your roof needs a non-standard width, we can cut custom mesh widths for a small $25-per-roll cut fee, and for genuinely unusual roofs or box gutters give us a call on 1300 156 197 and we will sort a custom kit.
What colours can I get?
We carry the full Colorbond-matched colour range for the trims and screw coating, with the steel components sourced from leading Australian suppliers including BlueScope®. We use locally sourced steel with a premium powder coating, which holds its colour and resists the fading you tend to get with cheap overseas imports. A few colours are unavailable where the steel suppliers have discontinued them, but almost any common roof colour is covered.
What does the 20-year warranty actually cover?
The 20-Year Industry-Leading Warranty covers degradation of the material itself, meaning the mesh and powder coating breaking down or fading over time, which is exactly where our locally sourced steel and salt-spray-tested coating (1000+ hours) earn their keep on coastal homes. To be upfront, it does not cover damage from falling branches, hail or general neglect, and no guard is a permanent no-maintenance solution. It is about minimising your maintenance, not eliminating it.
How does shipping work and is it hard to install myself?
Shipping is free on orders over $500 and a flat $20 under that, dispatched from our Gold Coast warehouse, with most metro deliveries landing in 1 to 7 days. Stock permitting, we dispatch same or next business day. The kit is designed for DIY, so follow our installation guides, take your time, secure your ladder and use a harness, and you will be fine. If you would rather talk it through before you start, call us on 1300 156 197.
